Implementation of the Curriculum Aligned with the 2014 National Curriculum, geography teaching at Parkhill Junior School provides an interesting, balanced and varied curriculum that is accessible to and meets the needs of all our children. Geography is taught discretely and each Year Group explores three topics in depth. Relevant links with other areas of the curriculum are made to enable children to connect their understanding of geography to wider learning experiences. Through a coherent series of lessons, children develop a deep subject knowledge and key skills to enable them to make at least good progress. To ensure deep learning, teachers have high expectations of outcomes, ask challenging questions for all pupils, and ensure children connect new knowledge with previous learning. The opportunity for children to develop geographical skills through fieldwork in the local environment is essential. Personalisation of the curriculum enables all children to make good progress. World Water Day Every year in March, World Water Day is observed internationally. It is a UN observance day aimed at highlighting the importance of fresh water for everyone. It was first introduced in 1992. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people in the world that are living without access to clean, safe water. We thought carefully about how important water is and how we benefit from using water in our lives. As one of our UNCRC rights, access to clean water is inherent: this means we are born with this right.
