This year, the Black History Month theme, “Reclaiming Narratives,” focuses on highlighting the often-overlooked achievements and contributions of Black individuals. At Parkhill Junior School, students will engage in a series of enriching and enjoyable activities, including mask painting and African dance. In addition to these creative activities, the children will be introduced to the stories of various individuals of colour whose accomplishments have historically been marginalized due solely to the color of their skin. This initiative aims to broaden their understanding and appreciation of the diverse contributions made by Black people throughout history.
